All over Pinterest I have been seeing this...
I have seen it with fancy letters from fun machines I can't afford, painted, stamped. Basically, you name it and I have seen it. I love the overall idea but one line popped out at me that I hate:
WE DO LOTS OF TESTS
All I can think is wait a minute.. tests? At my school, we have weekly spelling tests and math tests at the end of each unit. It isn't all about the tests. We focus on hands-on learning and assessing. That line makes me think, every subject, everyday, tests. Yuck! So of course, me being me, I once again avoided my to do list and did this little craft off of my wish list :)
So I am linking up with Tara over at 4th Grade Frolics for:

Here is what I created for myself:
And here is what I created for my FABULOUS, brand-spanking new, classroom teacher/best friend:
Aren't they just darling? I am so happy with how they turned out! And what made me even happier is the cashier at Joann's let me use multiple 50% off coupons in one transaction with my teacher discount!!
I used thick scrapbook paper for the backing, printed on card stock, green and black glitter tape from American Crafts for the borders, and 2.5 inch back ribbon for the bow and to connect. I have to say I am pretty impressed with myself (& my mom!) I definitely get my craftiness from my mom. On certain projects I do ask for her expertise. Sometimes I have the vision but I need someone to help me think it through! If you click on any of the pictures below you can download my version of In Our Classroom. Happy Crafting! :)
So cute - I love it. :) Unfortunately, where I teach, we do LOTS of tests..and that might be an understatement...but I like the sign better without that phrase. They hear about tests enough. Thanks for sharing !

ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS!! I was going to have vista print do this for me but I LOVE yours so much better! THANKS FOR SHARING! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Kelly. Although we do a lot of testing I agree that is not all about the test. Thank you for creating a printable version for us! You rock!!
ReplyDeleteKat
This is great! I don't like to remind the kiddos that they have to take lots of tests. Heck, I don't like to remind myself either!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. I'm your newest follower now! :)

Thanks for the printable version. However, when I printed, the "In our classroom" shadowed the word classroom and in "we do family" it shadowed family. Go any ideas as to how I can change that? I really like this idea and want to use it this year!
ReplyDeleteI also did not like the "We do tests," because it just didn't seem to fit with the theme of the poster... anyway, I'd been thinking of how to translate this to my classroom (No fancy machines here, either!) and you have totally made my life easier! What a doable and gorgeous option! Thank you so much! I've just downloaded several new fonts and am getting to work immediately! Happy teaching! Have a great year!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing! Can't wait to create and hang this in my room! So glad you took out testing!! We do plenty of testing in my school, but it is NOT what I want to highlight! I will be mounting mine on bright blue paper, using zebra-striped tape and black ribbon.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing! I absolutely love this!!! :)
ReplyDeleteLooooove this! And I agree with the whole "tests" part! Thanks for the freebie - I'll be making this tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing this and making it a FREE download. I was going to do it myself but you saved me. I have seen the PIN all over Pinterest and finally thought...well I'll do it today...and lo and behold...you were generous enough to share!

ReplyDeleteJust beautiful! I would have made one, but since you are so wonderful and shared your great work, now I just get to put it all together!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!!!!! (So, funny, I finished typing this and looked at MsM's comments above - - similar thinking today!!
ReplyDeleteI am doing this in my classroom. How did you hang the sign up on the door? I see the ring but then what hangs the rest? Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteWhile I had the same immediate reaction as a lot of people here about the Lots of tests part I actually like it. I'll tell you why. After the kids react to it you explain it like this: Yes, we are going to have tests every single day (insert student moans here lol). You are tested to do the right thing. You making the decision to not cheat, being kind to others, to stand up for someone that is being bullied, all of that is you being tested. So not only are you going to have to do subject testing, you will have tests on your characters as well. You can tie it in with Character Counts lessons. =)
ReplyDeleteI like this!!!
DeleteFANTASTIC!!!!! I love this and am going to put it in my classroom this year. Thank you for making this:)
ReplyDeleteCheers,

ReplyDeleteI am getting an error as well. :( I LOVE this though!
ReplyDeleteI love your idea! I am just making mine and have it all finished except for the bow at the top. I am wondering how you attached it to the top sign? Is it made in 2pieces? I need a few more directions if possible please.
