Birthday Treats

In the past, students would bring in sweet treats to celebrate their birthdays with classmates.  This year things are different.  Our principal decided that bringing in treats is not allowed.  We would have kiddos walking up and down the hall with donuts and cupcakes all the time.  Some days it felt like 10 kids came to my room to share their treats.  So much class times wasted and too many sweets.  Our principal wants us to celebrate by having a brain break, dance party, or something else that gets them up and moving.

Since they are bringing in their treats I wanted to spice up their little gift from me.  Last year I gave funky straws and a pencil.  This year I added a few little things to their goodie bag.  I ran into Target… you know… the place where you ALWAYS spend more then you planned on!  I found these goodies:

I found all of this stuff in the Dollar Spot and party aisle.

What You See:

Clear baggies

Pencils

Play-doh

Flutes

Bouncy Balls

Straws

Glow Bracelets (not pictured)

I created these little tags and included the adorable closing that Kelley Dolling from The Teacher Factory uses.  LOVE IT!

How do you celebrate birthdays in your room?

  1. Our problem was not so much with the birthday treat, but with the 'goodie bags' the parents prepared for the class. Seemed each time there was a birthday the parents tried to outdo the last one that came home. Now we ask for a book from the child for the class library instead. (Optional, of course.) THey get to share with the class why they chose this book and then I put on a special sticker that says it was a gift from them. Problem solved.

    Your tags are great!

  3. Adorable idea! We have children bring in treats if they want too (but some are a little over the top ($100) and some are really bad! We always give a class card, and I give a sticker. They get to be star helper for the day - that is about it! I love what you have made for your class!

I always spend too much at Target!

  5. I use empty water bottles. Cut a slit in the side and fill it. Then use a sticker over the slit. They are so amazed with their birthday bottle. Put some confetti in it and a puff of tissue on the top to make it even more festive.
